Depends on what you want to spend and what you want from it.

Tippmans are generally heavy. But a popular 'lower end' marker.

What type of games will you be playing? Scenario, Rec, Speed?

Are you eventually going to get serious or are you just testing the game out?

I've been recommending a very good marker as a low-end starter level marker that can be used by new players to the more advanced.

It's $289 or lower at most places, shoots up to 18 BPS, is accurate, durable and light. It's the Smart Parts "ION".

For $100 more than a T98, you get a HUGE upgrade on performance, weight, speed and style.

The Ion, which I shot a couple of times, is good for all sorts of games. Rec, Scenario and even speed/air ball.

Try out both at a store before you buy.

Well you can always do what me and a bunch of bro's did.. We all played it once and got hooked. But are still beginners.. So we all bought spyders.. Super cheap entry level gun.. YOu can get them almost anywhere. Sporting good stores all over.... There all you need to start out.. If you get serious then spend the money on the good stuff.. WGP. A-5's. autocockers...........

Yes, you can spend $89 bucks on a spyder. If you're an occasional player, sure, spyders are fine.

But what does it mean starting out? I knew I was going to play every week. So why waste money on a marker when you're going to upgrade anyway?

If you want to try the game, rent a marker. Tons of spyder's out there. You'll forgo $20 on a rental, find out if you like the game and if you do, then buy a marker. If you already know you're going to play alot, save money on something that you can really rely on and improve your game with.

The common saying is its not the marker, its the player behind the marker. ANd that's so true. Some pump players are way better players over some of those guys with expensive markers. One shot versus 20bps and the one shot wins. It only takes one shot!

As far as my experience goes, I've been playing since 1985. Yeah, I'm old. I stopped after college for about 10 years then restarted again knowing this will be the sport of choice. So I went with a midlevel marker - A Nasty Impulse. It is a great marker. But then I shot a Shocker and the accuracy was like night and day. It improved my game not just by the accuracy, but by confidence too. I'm a decent snap shooter. When I upgraded to the Shocker, I really felt more confident in my snap shotting skills.

i agree with glenn im a big smart parts fan anyway but that ion rips.. not to mention you can upgrade it, its dependable it takes wear and tear, its a slick lil gun.. and fast.. definately my recomendation too, its also low maintenance unlike cockers and what not.. mind you tipman is good they're solid guns but the ion is more versitile. i own both a c98 and an ion.. i shoot an impulse as my tourney gun..

I shot a Nasty Impulse for almost a year before going to Ton Ton Shocker. Do you find the Impy more accurate than the Ion? I like the Impy more to be honest and prices should drop because of the Ion's capable features.

i love my impy, it does a lot better than my ion but i've got the impy maxed out.. only thing im lacking is the 90degree grip, otherwise.. was board, max flo bottem reg, all upgraded internals full freak kit, halo b w/ victory board.. so she's quite the paint slinger.. though the ion does keep up nicely for being a low end..

okay, Glenn & Unconformit u 2 are WAY past where i am with the paint ball stuff. honestly most of my extra cash goes into my dirt bikes & motocross, the paint ball is an occasional hobby and somthing i'll do in my back yard.

once i get bit by the bug huge i'll look into spending $300 + on a marker but for now i just wanna shoot stuff like trees and my girl friend in the ass.

so anything in the $100 range and under is what i am looking to get info on.

any more you can tell me about the spyder markers?? THANKS!

ahh. .just go with a tippman 98 man .. good gun and its dependable.. very low maintenance too.. bout 100 - 150..

most spyder markers are junk.. they tend to be really touchy.

i know that no one here knows me, but i agree completely that a 98 is the way to go to start with. i wouldn't start with an all pneumatic 98 for your first gun. you can do anythng to that gun and i will shoot and shoot well. the best part is that a monkey could tear one apart and put it back together. if you do get adventureous and start tearing apart out of the box. make sure that you see how the trigger pins are. this is the only part that is kinda tricky and it's pretty easy to figure out.

i agree about the ions, but they are about twice as much as a 98. though out of the box an ion rips. they are very easy to walk and are accurate. if you have played a couple of several times and are just looking for a gun of your own and you play alot then consider an ion. the problem with getting an ion is that the cost will be much higher. not only do you pay more for the gun but you also have to get a electro hopper, and a hp tank would be recommended. so now your cost has just about trippled. great if you are hooked and are going to continue playing playing indefinatly, not so good if you play four times and it sits in the back of a closet indefinatly. the key factor is how much you play and how you play as to what type of marker you really need.
